Reflection on building a website.

 For my Vision of the Future assignment I decided to make a website that focuses on the Design Thinking Process. I have done a little Design Thinking with previous classes and found that one of my main challenges is that I was always looking for age appropriate resources. It seemed like I was spending hours of my "spare time" looking for credible websites that suited the needs of my class. The other part of Design Thinking that I previously struggled with was giving my students all the knowledge and practice with ways to show their thinking. The website that I created is geared to helping students through the Design Thinking Process. However, I know that this process does not happen with out a lot of support from the teacher so I also included some helpful resources for the teacher to help implement Design Thinking with their entire class.   Reading Assignment (part A): Interests and Issues In my career as a teacher my focus has been on elementary school learners. I enjoy seeing the sparkle in students' eyes when they discover new skills and overcome challenges. The last few years have been spent teaching in a combined grade 3 and 4 classroom. In school district 23 we have a Design Thinking Network where teachers all over our district can come together and collaborate and discuss ways of promoting inquiry and technology to our students using a design thinking process. I was really excited with my students' thinking and ability to empathize and Ideate and then COVID happened and everything came to a standstill. This year I have been trying to get back into using Design Thinking and I have been hitting a lot of barriers. Blog 3 - Reference Resources Beyond Google.

Introduction At the start of this course I wasn’t really sure what to expect. At first, I was thinking well Reference material is Reference material, not much else to it. Boy was that a misconception. I knew right from defining some of the introduction terms that I would be learning a lot about Reference resources. My first stop was to my school's current Teacher Librarian (TL). Personally I had not really thought about using reference resources, as I usually jumped right on google to find the answer to my questions. I found that our current Library Learning Commons (LLC) had a reference section that was tucked away in the teacher area and all the resources were more than 20 years old. Our school isn’t even 20 years old. My takeaway from this theme is that Google is not the only place to get information and that there is still a need for students to be exposed to physical reference materials.
